Our Methodology: The Bali Diving Package Standard
The term ‘luxury’ is often used, but rarely defined. At Bali Diving Package, our reputation is built on a tangible and transparent methodology for evaluating every component of our dive experiences. This rigorous process ensures that any Bali diving package bearing our name meets an uncompromising standard of safety, quality, and value. We believe in showing our work, so you can trust the recommendations we make.
The Four Pillars of Evaluation
Every partner, from dive boat operators to boutique hotels, and every itinerary we design is assessed against our proprietary four-pillar scoring system. Partners must maintain a high score across all categories to be included in our portfolio.
1. Safety & Compliance (45% Weighting)
This is our non-negotiable foundation. Our audit process is exhaustive and includes:
- Vessel & Vehicle Audits: Annual on-site inspection of all dive boats and transport vehicles. We check maintenance logs, safety equipment (emergency O2, first aid, VHF/GPS), and compliance with Indonesian maritime (Ditjen Perhubungan Laut) and land transport regulations.
- Staff Certification Verification: We independently verify the active teaching status of all PADI professionals and the first-aid certifications (EFR) of all guides and boat crew.
- Emergency Action Plan (EAP) Review: We ensure all partners have a documented and practiced EAP, including communication protocols with DAN and the nearest hyperbaric chambers (e.g., Sanglah General Hospital).
- Insurance & Licensing: Verification of valid business licenses (SIUP Pariwisata) and adequate liability insurance.
2. Expertise & Guiding Quality (25% Weighting)
A great guide transforms a good dive into an unforgettable one. We evaluate:
- Local Knowledge: We assess guides on their deep understanding of specific sites, including current patterns at Nusa Penida, macro critter locations in Amed, and the history of the USS Liberty Wreck.
- Briefing & Debriefing Quality: Dive briefings must be comprehensive, clear, and safety-focused. Debriefings should be engaging and educational, helping divers identify what they saw.
- Guest Management: We observe how guides manage groups of varying skill levels, ensuring both safety and enjoyment for everyone.
- Professional Development: We favor partners who invest in the ongoing education of their staff.
3. Sustainability & Community Impact (15% Weighting)
We are stewards of the environment we operate in. Our evaluation includes:
- Environmental Practices: Adherence to the Green Fins Code of Conduct, strict policies on single-use plastics, and use of reef-safe anchoring practices.
- Conservation Contribution: Active support for local conservation initiatives, such as the Biorock project in Pemuteran or contributions to the Coral Triangle Center.
- Local Employment & Sourcing: We prioritize partners who employ and train staff from local communities and source supplies from local businesses.
4. Quality of Experience & Hospitality (15% Weighting)
This pillar covers all the touchpoints that define a luxury experience.
- Equipment Quality: All rental gear must be from reputable brands (e.g., Scubapro, Aqua Lung) and be less than three years old, with a clear service history.
- Comfort & Amenities: The quality of towels, on-board refreshments, post-dive facilities, and vehicle comfort are all assessed.
- Service Ethos: We look for proactive, attentive, and personalized service that anticipates guest needs.
Site Visit Cadence and Continuous Improvement
Our evaluation is not a one-time event. A member of our senior team, often from our core leadership, personally conducts an audit of every partner on an annual basis. We also use anonymized guest feedback to monitor performance continuously. This rigorous, transparent methodology, guided by our Editorial Standards, is our promise to you. It’s how we ensure that your Bali diving experience is nothing short of exceptional.
